Weekly Update - 21.06.10 - 27.06.10

SWIM

Squad x 2
Non-squad x 1

~10km

Good sessions at squad this week with a nice 500-100-500 ladder adding up to 3km which was nice and solid. Our pool is now going to be closed for 2 weeks (!) but the squad will continue in the leisure pool so we may give it a miss for 2 weeks and go back to what we were doing before in our squad-less state. They will be doing up the changing rooms where we swim now thank god because they are pretty skanky and its like walking into a freezer in the morning as they seem to have negative insulation.

BIKE

Time: 11hrs26
Distance: 293km

Missed 2 days on the bike this week (shock! horror!) due to a spew bug that took me out for a couple of days and was really quite unpleasant. The rest of the week wasn't too bad, did a 2up TT on Saturday with my friend Jess who is a little person too (not quite as little but littler than most). It was 40km and we were good for the first 30km (I did have a muppet moment at the 2nd turnaround and had to unclip...) then Jess dropped her chain and had to stop to fix it so we lost a couple of minutes with that. The last 5kms were a bit sad for Jess as she experienced an internal combustion (she had been sick and hadn't ridden her bike for a couple of weeks) so we tootled to the finish.
I'm sure I saw a human skeleton on the side of the road but no-one else can back me on this.
Did a bit over 3.5hrs as my longest ride on Sunday, I was good on the uphills in the first half of the ride but absolutely sucked on the flat. I haven't been able to eat my usual amount without feeling sick since my bug so think maybe I was running low on stored fuel perhaps. Or maybe I just sucked.

RUN

Time: 1hr37
Distance: ~21km

I was planning on doing my long run on Thursday since we had the TT on Saturday but since I was sick that never happened so only did my track session and 2 x 30min runs. The first run back after being sick wasn't great but was also feeling a bit wasted from riding beforehand.
My track session was ok, didn't have anyone to run with so wasn't quite hitting the times from the week before but wasn't too far off. There was a bit of traffic on the track this week which is fine but I do think it is slightly rude to let your toddler wander all over the place when there are people actually training... grrrrrrr...

Weekly Update - 14.06.10 - 20.06.10

SWIM

2 x squad
1 x non-squad

~10km

Back into the MWF swing of things this week. Nothing too exciting at squad this week, had a decent set of 12x200's with a bit of IM and plenty of spa time. Still doing our Friday swim with some of the people from the Teps which is usually a bit of a pootle for me.

BIKE

Time: 14hrs16
Distance: 334km

Quite a big week this week but less distance the week before, must have been in slow mode. Had some good rides during the week (except from being almost blown off the ridge of Point View Drive...) then the weather turned crap for the weekend. Saturday was ok just a bit windy but Sunday wasn't great. Managed 60mins on the DWT then 2.5hrs on the road and it had pretty much stopped raining by then so all worked out well. Am getting pretty sick of rain though especially with my 5hr+ rides looming.

RUN

Time: 4hrs20
Distance: ~54.5km

Had a good track session with one of my triathlon buddies this week, managed to run faster over 800m and 400m than ever so must have been pootling a bit by myself. Longest run was 1hr45 but with about 5 toilet stops which wasn't ideal but luckily there was lots of bush. Might hold off eating any date scones pre-run in the future I think...

Weekly Update - 07.06.10 - 13.06.10

SWIM

Squad x 1
Non-squad x 1

~6.5km

Lost a swim this week for Queen's Birthday and wasn't really motivated enough to make it up. I figure my swimming quality has improved since getting back into a squad so didn't feel too sad about missing one.
The new squad is going well, sessions are around 3.5km-4km so pretty solid. We haven't done anything too long yet, it seems to be more of a technique focus at the moment but I am doing decent sessions which is the main thing.

BIKE

Time: 13hrs40
Distance: 340km

Managed to avoid any windtrainer sessions this week thank god and ended up being a pretty good week. Did some 2 up TT practice in preparation for a club TT race in a couple weeks, managed not to crash which was a bonus. Did a good 3hr ride in the weekend with a few other triathletes so it was good to get back on the longer ride bandwagon.
Was having a feww issues with my headset on my TT bike not running very smoothly but my good friend Andrew at Hot Cycles sorted it for me so hopefully no more muppet moments at the turn around cone...

RUN

Time: 3hrs45
Distance:~47.5km

This weekend's long run was disrupted by a 3km cross country race in Cambridge which we decided to do since we would be there anyway. It wasn't like an Auckland cross country (ie. running around Lloyd Elsmore Park or Long Bay Reserve), it was on a local farm and had a massive gully which I couldn't even run down it was so steep and muddy. It was awesome. I didn't run very fast and got wasted by some of the other girls, they obviously breed them a bit tougher in the Waikato. Luckily I had my spikes which made getting up some of the hills/banks a bit easier but am still suffering the aftermath of having strapped ankles with several raw bits on my feet from the edge of the tape.

This was the flat part of the course, there were 2 fences we had to climb over which I did with so much style and finesse. And the race briefing was held in a barn.

Weekly Update - 31.05.10 - 06.06.10

SWIM

Squads x 2
Non-squad swim x 1

~10km

Finally made it to a new squad just down the road. We started with a bit of a weird kick set with fins which I wasn't too keen on but the rest was pretty good. And I managed to get a six month pass for only a little bit more than what I was spending for the Teps so its all G.

BIKE

Time: 11hrs32
Distance: 272km

Slowly getting the bike mojo back, the weather this week was pretty poo so had to use the dreaded windtrainer a couple of times. Still haven't done any long rides (3hrs+) but am building up to it.

RUN

Time: 4hrs03
Distance: ~50km

Did my second track session this week which went well (well as in the track was open and I was able to use it, not like I was fast). Did some shorter stuff compared with last time to get the leggies moving a bit quicker and it wasn't entirely pleasant but hopefully it will be good for me. Longest run this week was 84mins so will build over the few weeks then stick at 2hrs for a while until I get a bit closer to Ironman.

Weekly Update - 24.05.10 - 30.05.10

SWIM

4 x swims
~11.8km

Had pretty wasted legs after Huntly Half so Monday's swim was a bit of a pootle then lots of spa time. Had a good swim in the weekend with a few others in Taupo (in the pool) like our own little squad. We had a program to follow and it was great having people I could actually swim with. Will hopefully be trying out a squad next week.

BIKE

Time: 9hrs59
Distance: 254km

Bike volume still isn't where is should be, the first half of the week was still Huntly recovery mode plus some pretty poo weather. Had a good ride in Kinloch in the weekend but it wasn't quite as long as I was hoping and Sunday was a Te Awamutu club race so things were a bit different to normal. The club race was a 30km points race with 5 sprints and I manged to keep up with C grade which was good news. I wasn't quite there for the sprints but was actually sprint faster than some of the others in my grade which was a bit of a shock.
Had a D&M with my bike program advisors after a few little panics that my biking isn't where it should be. I worked out that I have 15 weeks until my next race (IM Wisconsin) which is a bit longer than I thought it was. So we have a plan so I am feeling much better about it. The hardest part will be training when the weather is yuck over winter and having to carry on by myself when no-one wants to ride 5hrs+. But I'm tough so it won't be a problem

If you get out your magnifying glass you can see the side of my Hot Cycles top next to number 21...

RUN

Time: 2hrs58
Distance: ~37km

Didn't end up running until Wednesday when I thought my leggies were back to normal only to have my calves tighten up like nothing I've ever felt before after 5-10mins of running. I did plenty of stretches and tried to massage them and then succumbed to wearing compression socks for my run on Thursday. I've only worn them for recovery and felt like a bit of a tri-geek but didn't get the tightening that I had the day before so maybe they worked (or maybe they would of felt the same without them anyway...). Longest run was only about 11km but will start to build on my 90min training base starting next week.
